LAFCO accepts report recommending Solano rural fire district merger
FAIRFIELD — Cordelia, Suisun, Vacaville and Montezuma fire protection district should merge for long-term sustainability.
That was one of the primary recommendations in a report accepted Monday by the Local Agency Formation Commission.
No other action was taken.
The report by the consulting firm Citygate also recommends finding a long-term funding source to support the districts’ command, personnel, equipment and maintenance needs.
The 142-page report outlines challenges facing the districts, more than three-dozen findings and a series of recommendations.
Commission John Vasquez said it was his personal hope to take to the public some kind of funding option – whether it be a flat tax, parcel tax or sales tax – on the March 2022 ballot.
A task force has been formed to work on a possible plan that would consolidate Cordelia, Suisun and Vacaville. The district chiefs are expected to present a draft plan sometime early next year.
